Ohio State vs. Youngstown State MVP
Ryan Pretorius

Ohio State vs. Youngstown State MVP

It’s been hard these past couple of days to think about an MVP with waiting news on Chris Wells condition yet to come. However, we must press on, so my game MVP goes to the special teams.

By Eric Geier

Kicking

Ryan Pretorius went 4 for 4 on field goal attempts. Many of his field goals came on stalled drives that simply didn’t yield any touchdowns. Pretorious went 2/2 on field goals between 20 and 29 yards, 1/1 on kicks between 30 and 39 yards and lastly, a 51 yarder.  Pretorious pretty much shut the book on any doubts about his leg or any possibility of a kicker controversy with Aaron Pettrey. However, Pettrey did come in during the fourth quarter to nail a 54-yarder, which was the fourth longest field goal in Ohio Stadium history. Pettrey was also able to contribute on kick-offs, rarely giving the Penguins a chance to return a kick.  Even when Youngstown St. was able to return a kick, the special teams players swooped in like a hawk picking off its dinner.

Punting

The Buckeyes didn’t have to punt the entire game. Enough said.
