Ohio State 2009 Recruiting Class Update

Ohio State 2009 Recruiting Class Update

Ohio State and recruiting fans are getting ready for the final stretch to signing day with only a couple spots open for the elite players in the country. Take a look at the updated recruiting chart: 2009 Football Recruiting Chart Some of the biggest targets for the Buckeyes remain at Quarterback, Wide Receiver, and Offensive Line. With 24 players already signed there are not many positions available but with the early enrollment of a number of High School seniors, the Buckeyes are looking at adding 1 to 3 more players.

By Steve Patterson

Quarterback

The loss of two quarterbacks to transfer this past season leads Ohio State to look for depth at the quarterback position for the 2009 season. A standout at the Army All American Bowl in January and one of the Buckeyes top targets is Tajh Boyd from Phoebus High School in Hampton Virginia. The 3rd best dual threat quarterback in the country is as interested in Ohio State as they are in him. Oregon might have a slight lead for his commitment with Clemson a close third in the race. Boyd could decide any day. Being a part of a two man rotation at Ohio State is not a problem for Boyd who would have two years as a starter if he stayed all four years and Terrelle Pryor left after three years for the NFL.

Wide Receiver

With a player like Marlon Brown interested in your program, you keep a spot open for him. He is a game changing receiver from Harding Academy in Memphis Tennessee. At the recent Under Amour All American Bowl hosted by ESPN, Brown showed incredible speed and the ability to take the ball to the end zone on a number of patterns and positions. He is currently considering Florida, Georgia, Ole Miss, Tennessee, and Ohio State. The Buckeyes already have three receivers in the 2009 class and this is after a strong 2008 class of three. So wide receiver isn’t a great need but they will take Brown if he wants to join Pryor who he reportedly is somewhat close with.

Offensive Line

The Buckeyes lost a good number of offensive linemen at the end of the 2008 season to graduation and even with three stellar recruits in 2008 and three more ready to sign for 2009, they are looking for one more big tackle to fill out the class. Glenville Tarblodder Marcus Hall had been expected to take a position the OSU coaching staff have been saving for him but he has had a number of good visits including one to Michigan and one to Miami (FL). After both visits he talked about playing time and getting on the field early which he feels would be a problem at Ohio State. In case Hall does not commit to Ohio State, the Buckeyes have been recruiting Morgan Moses, a huge 6-7, 347lbs tackle from Richmond Virginia who is rated the 5th best offensive tackle in the country. Hall is down to a final four of Ohio State, Michigan, Miami, and Tennessee. Moses favors North Carolina and Virginia but has Ohio State as a close third. If Ohio State only signs the three currently committed offensive linemen, they will still have good depth at all the line positions and a very good group of young players for the future.
