According to Rivals.com, Pryor was
set to sign with the Buckeyes on February 6th but his father wanted him to give
Penn State a shot. Apparently giving Penn State a good look also means that you
visit Oregon and keep Michigan on your list of schools.
I won't get too down on Pryor, this
truly is a life changing decision and he needs to make the right one (Ohio State). I applaud him for keeping everything in
perspective (Ohio State) and wanting to take his time making the choice (Ohio State).
I have two points of concern I would like to make:
1) This is the second time I have heard him say in a press conference that he
didn't want all the attention the media is giving him. If he is tired of all the attention and wants
to be left alone then why is he calling press conferences to tell the media he
didn't want to talk to them anymore? He
certainly wanted the attention when he had someone develop a website to
showcase his football skills (www.terrellpryor.org) and now when it's no longer
fun he gets cranky. Sorry to bring this up but the media isn't going anywhere
and it's only going to get worse from this point on.
2) In the Rivals article, Pryor goes into a short tirade
about the media criticizing his decision to hold off on his signing to explore
all options. He singled out Mark May of
ESPN saying, "(He) is criticizing me on national television and he doesn't
even know me. That kind of stuff really bothers me, when people who know
nothing about me are talking about me like they know anything." While I will rarely side with Mark May on
anything, I have to say that he was just doing his job. He's a talking head
that's paid to spout his opinion on television and he did just that when he
spoke about Pryor. This kind of
sensitivity worries me. What's going to
happen if Terrell signs with OSU and he has some bad games? Columbus media and some of the OSU fan-base
won't necessarily give him a pat on the back and say, "Go get 'em next
time, tiger." Terrell needs to
grow some thick skin quickly with no matter which school he signs.
