After finishing his senior season
in early 2007 at Ohio
State, Justin Zwick was
looking forward to a chance to play in NFL Europe which has now led him to Arena
football and the Columbus Destroyer's camp. "I originally thought about
waiting to see if there would be a chance for NFL Europe but after they ended
that program I found myself looking in to arena." Justin told us about his
football options during the past year. "I ended up going to a couple
workouts and ended up just going in and throwing anytime they had receivers
come in to try and get a feel for the game."
Zwick signed and entered camp at
almost the same time and is quickly learning the system. "I signed with
the team the night before our first practice in camp about a week and a half
ago. Practices have been going well, just trying to get a feel for the game
with every rep I get."
As several Ohio State
quarterbacks before him have found out, including Joe Germain now with the Utah
Blaze and Steve Bellisari now with the New Orleans Voodoo, Arena football is
quite a bit different than College or NFL football. "Arena ball is a lot
different than the outdoor game. Of course the field is much smaller which
makes everything happen so much faster and there are some different rules that
make the game much different. Its very hectic out on the field which makes it
fun!"
Before moving on from Ohio State
Zwick completed a Business degree and has taken on a number of media positions
within the State of Ohio.
"Yes, I graduated with a degree from the Fisher College of Business.
Although I haven't really put it in to action yet, we will see what happens.
During the fall I worked with WBNS (channel 10 and ONN) out of Columbus
doing some shows for Ohio State football, and also color commentating for high
school games throughout the state of Ohio."
Zwick explained to us. "I also worked with Sports Time Ohio for the high
school football playoffs and called two of the State Championship games with
Matt Underwood."
Now that he has been signed, Zwick
is doing what he needs to do to make the reduced roster for the upcoming
season. "Right now I am just trying to not get cut! I have signed with the
team, but I think there are about 35 or so guys in camp and during the season
it will go down to around 24 so the competition is stiff and being a rookie
with little experience I'm not sure what’s going to happen."
