COLUMBUS, Ohio – Former Ohio State defensive end Vernon Gholston tied for the most repetitions in the bench press at this weekend’s National Football League Combine at the RCA Dome in Indianapolis.

The Big Ten defensive lineman of the year, Gholston completed 37 repetitions in the bench press, most among the defensive linemen. Only offensive lineman Jake Long of Michigan tied Gholston’s mark among the 300-plus players being evaluated by the NFL. Gholston’s 35.5-inch vertical jump and 10’5” broad jumps were best among the defensive linemen. His 40-yard dash time of 4.67 seconds was third fastest among the defensive linemen tested.

All-America offensive tackle Kirk Barton, a first team all-Big Ten selection as a junior and senior; ranked third among the offensive linemen in the bench press, doing 34 repetitions. Linebacker Larry Grant, who made 14 career starts for the Buckeyes, worked out later Monday.
