11 years ago before the Big 10 implemented a
conference tournament; most of the coaches were against it. Today, if the Bucks didn't have another game
before NCAA Selection Sunday, they would most likely be in the tournament. With a win against Michigan State
on Friday, the Bucks will almost be assured a place in the top 65. If they should fail to win, their fate will
depend on others—specifically the non-BCS league championship tournaments.
The number
of available at large spots in the tournament depends on how many of the
favored teams win their tournaments and gets the automatic invitation to the
Dance. The fewer upsets the better for
OSU and all the other so called “bubble” teams.
Each upset subtracts one at large spot for the major college teams.
That brings
up an obvious question—is a 7-17 WhatsaMatter
State from the moon belt conference
that beats WeShouldHaveWon
College in the moon belt
championship game better than OSU?
NO. But in what only can be
called politically correct gone mad, chances are good that both will get
invitations to the NCAA's. WeShouldHaveWon College won 23 games against similarly
unknown and unloved schools in its conference.
It will get an invite only because the committee thinks it should.
So power
conference schools on the bubble this year like Syracuse,
West Virginia and others like Ohio State
must cheer for the “over-dog” in tournaments of the non-power conferences. Here is a salute to the Over-Dogs of the
world.
