Almost
anyone can get a decent player in the first and second round of the NFL
draft. What separates the perennial
contenders from the pretenders is the ability to get contributing players in
the 4th through the 7th rounds of the draft. The Indianapolis Colts choose wisely when
they selected OSU wide out Roy Hall in the 5th round (169th
pick overall) of the 2007 draft.
According
to several sources including The Sporting News, Hall will become the 4th
receiver in the rotation in 2008 replacing Aaron Moorehead, a veteran the Colts
decided not to re-sign. Hall’s
combination of size (6-3, 240) and adequate speed make him difficult to cover
for a defense. He is too fast to trust a
linebacker to cover him and too big and strong for the average cornerback or
safety to handle. He has always run very
precise pass routes which is critical in the Colts offense.
In
addition, Buckeye fans will remember his knack of coming up with the big play
just when we really needed it. Hall's
specialty has always been the key catch on 3rd down. This promotion is well deserved. If he plays well, there is a good chance that
he will be the choice to replace Marvin Harrison when the 13 year veteran
retires. Harrison
will be 36 before the 2008 season opens.
