There
were rumors that the Rams might pick Ohio
State defensive end Vernon Gholston
but they drafted Chris Long, the defensive end from Virginia, with the second overall pick. The
Jets were looking at Darren McFadden, the running back out of Arkansas, but the
Raiders grabbed him with the fourth pick overall as the draft moved swiftly
this year with reduced time periods between each pick. The Jets were happy to
pick Gholston sixth overall. Gholston is the 67th Ohio State
player to be picked in the first round of the NFL draft.
“Vernon Gholston can play
end in a 4-3 or outside linebacker in a 3-4. With so many teams using a
blend of both defenses, Gholston is very valuable because he can do both.”
BrutusReport.com writer Bill Smith told us about Gholston’s ability earlier
this week.
