Writer's Q&A: 2008 USC Game Scheduled for 8 PM EST

The OSU/USC game will define the seasons of both teams.

The 2008 Ohio State vs. USC game will be played in prime time at 8pm on  ABC, great exposure for the Buckeyes or that much more difficult to  pull out the win?

Bill Smith: The OSU/USC game will define the seasons of both teams.  USC had 10 players drafted this year into the NFL including 4 in the first round.  In 2008 the men from Troy will have to replace their entire offense except the starting wide receivers and 5 starters on defense but don't cry for them.  Just like the Buckeyes, they reload they don't rebuild.  The USC defense still has lots of star-power particularly at linebacker with Rey Maualuga and the reserves got a lot of playing time due to injuries.  The team that wins that game will likely be #1 going into their league play.

My days as a big time wrestling fan are long gone but this quote, no matter how corny, always stuck with me.  If I were a player I would want to play anyone, anytime, anywhere.  The stigma that Ohio State is soft and plays in a weak conference is a real national perspective.  Playing one of the NCAA big dogs in their house in prime time is a golden opportunity for the Buckeyes to shut the critics up and solidify their hold as one of the top ranked teams in 2008.

Eric Geier: It is going to be a difficult game regardless of what time it's played. Luckily, the Buckeyes are a team full of veterans who have seen what it's like to play in front of fans during a prime time game. This game is also going to be the game that shows critics and football fans across the country if the Buckeyes can hang with a team outside of the Big Ten. If they lose against USC it's going to be open season on the Buckeyes and all the talk about how they have a soft schedule and play in the weak Big Ten.

Ryan Leonardo: Thank the Lord above that it isn't on the Big Ten Network.  As expected, this will be one of the biggest games in college football this year. Tressel will have the guys ready, no question.  If we can pull out the win, we will have early momentum that will be hard to stop.

Steve Patterson: That last two major national powerhouse teams Ohio State faced were Florida and LSU. This one game could restore confidence in the Buckeye’s nationally. If Ohio State can go into half-time up or close to the Trojans and make needed adjustments for the second period they should be able to pull out the road win. They have a very soft schedule surrounding the game so preparing shouldn’t be an issue.
